چکیده

Self-sensing refers to extracting the position information from the electromagnetic signals instead of from a physical position sensor. Self-sensing actuator has the benefit of significantly reducing hardware effort. In this paper, we investigate selfsensing actuators applied in direct acing proportional valves. The study is based on the configuration of a dual-solenoid actuator where each solenoid provides the independent single direction force. By considering the electrical dynamics of the solenoids and the nonlinear constraint between the two solenoids , an observer for the flux linkages is obtained. The position estimate is then calculated based on the flux linkage estimates. Both simulation and experiments verify the validity of the proposed algorithm.

On Self-sensing Actuators for Electrohydraulic Valves: Comparisons between Boxcar Window Observer and Kalman Filter

Self-sensing refers to extracting the position information from the electromagnetic signals instead of from a physical position sensor. Self-sensing actuator has the benefit of significantly reducing hardware effort. In this paper, we investigate two types of observers: Boxcar Window Observer and Kalman Filter. The performance of both observers has been compared in simulation and experimentally.

Self-calibration of Push-pull Solenoid Actuators in Electrohydraulic Valves

System parameters for solenoid actuators are important for high performance control and for self-sensing. Due to the nonlinearities in the solenoid actuators, parameter identification procedures that aim to obtain the electro-mechanical property can be complex and time consuming. In this paper, a self-calibration procedure for solenoid actuators in push-pull configurations is proposed. Utilizin...

On Using Unstable Electrohydraulic Valves for Control

High bandwidth, high flow rate electrohydraulic valves typically have two or more stages. Most multi-stage valves are expensive, require meticulously clean fluid, and introduce higher order dynamics. On the other hand, single-stage spool valves are cheaper and more reliable. However, a majority of them are not suitable for high bandwidth, high flow rate applications due to limitations of the el...

Flux Observer for Spool Displacement Sensing in Self-Sensing Push-Pull Solenoids

Spool position feedback in an electrohydraulic valve typically requires a spool displacement sensing device such as a LVDT. Self-sensing is the methodology to obtain spool displacement information directly from the solenoid spool actuators, thus obviating the additional cost and footprint of a LVDT or another displacement sensing device. A self-sensing scheme that uses only the measurement of e...

Using Steady Flow Force for Unstable Valve Design: Modeling and Experiments

In single stage valves, the main spools are stroked directly by solenoid actuators. They are cheaper and more reliable than multistage valves. Their use, however, is restricted to low bandwidth and low flow rate applications due to the limitation of the solenoid actuators. Our research focuses on alleviating the need for large and expensive solenoids in single stage valves by advantageously usi...
